More Roadburn 2011 stuff revealed

Let’s start with one that in the end wasn’t used. I did this pencil drawing for a flyer for the Sabbath Assembly show. The band chose for a more minimalistic approach, so I filed this one away.

….and here’s one of the last images I did for the backdrops of the Roadburn show of Pentagram. Speed-Painted in record time 2 days before I did the show.

Damn, I was really reaching a state of panic by then and was working like a maniac trying to get stuff finished.
I used an early nineties photo for this one.
Special thanks to Jeff Lee of Pentagram Archives, who provided me with kick ass photo’s to use as source material for this show. He was a great help. Thanks brother!

First of the Roadburn illustrations

I’ll be posting more of my Roadburn work in the next few days.

Here’s the first one. It’s one of the backdrops I painted for the Pentagram show.

Roadburn day 1

Day one was great.

I arrived at the same time as Pentagram. That was a fun beginning of this year’s Roadburn. I met with Bobby, Greg and new dude Albert right away. The’re great guys. It was great to see Bobby was looking good and he turned out te be a very friendly and fun guy.  He grave a great performance this night

Today was my first videoshow and a slideshow.

The Acid King show went really well. The bright colors were obviously a good choice. They blasted of the screen.
The speed was much better than my old Acid King video. It really merged with the music now.
And of course, just as I expected, the band was great too!
I just love the extreme guitar sound that Lori produces. Great stuff.

The Pentagram show went great too. The band was brilliant! Bobby’s voice was great and Victor’s signature sound was freaking awesome.

Someone was extremely fast with uploading this. You can even see my monitors in the foreground.
The guy who filmed this little clip must have been standing right behind me.

Anyway. All in all a great first day!!

METAL!!

Here’s a flyer I just did for the 2011 Roadburn Festival.

I took the oportunity to pull out all the stops and make it an oldschool design it the style of those early eighties compilation LP’s.
You know, the ones that promised speed-metal and delivered Uriah Heep and Nazareth :)

All the “Metal” stuff was done “by hand” in Illustrator.

Spindrift at Roadburn flyer

Here’s a flyer I just finished of Spaghetti western rockers Spindrift.

I took the oportunity to create something in the style of  the great 60′s / early 70′s Italian posters.
The painting was done in watercolor with some touches of gouache.

Pentagram 40th anniversary tourposter

I finally finished the pentagram tourposter.

It’s a rebuild from the flyer I did a few months ago.
It’s so cool to get the oportunity to do artwork for one of my all-time fave bands.

I had to re-paint some parts because the format of a standard tourposter is way different from the flyer artwork.
It took me a while but I’m quite happy with the result.

New Gallery section – Posters and Flyers

I added a “Posters and Flyers” section to the gallery.

Most of them also include my own artwork, the rest I merely designed. In some cases the bands provide me with album art and such to use on the flyers.

Place of Skulls – The Gates of Slumber tour poster finished

I finally got the tourposter finished.  This was a fun one to do. I used a mix of several techniques to produce it. The knight and shield are black and white watercolors and the background was done in ink (you’ll find them in last month’s posts).
The design is a combination of illustrator/photoshop and indesign.

The coloring of the black and white artwork was done in Photoshop. I like the “colored black ‘n white” technique.
It enhances the vintage look.
