New Roadburn gallery section

I’ve been asked to put more of my Roadburn designs online so I’ve  searched through the archives and made a selection.

There have been several harddisk crashes over the last couple of years (probably dure to extensive usage) so a lot of the older work is completely lost in cyberspace.  Since I prefer the recent work, in which I’ve started to include more and more artwork instead of just digital design, I don’t mind the loss of the old pieces that much really. Anyway, you’ll find all of it in the gallery section , divided in 2011, 2010 and the rest in misc. Enjoy!

Moving deadlines

Getting more known is great, and I really appreciate the gret work bands have me design, but I’m having difficulty catching up at the moment.

I will have to send some impopular mails out today.

One of the commissions I’m working on is a lot more timeconsuming and way more difficult than expected so I have to move all deadlines.
I will need at least a couple of weeks to finish these drawings in time before I can move on so deadlines before October/November will have to be moved. If I haven’t contacted you yet, then the difficult commission is your one :)

New poster in the making! Dixie Witch, Roadsaw and Sasquatch eurotour.

This weekend was spent on drawing and painting the artwork for the upcoming european tour of the kickass package: Dixie Witch, Roadsaw and Sasquatch.

I decided to take another route and not go for the typical stonerrock “chicks and cars” or Fillmore hippie poster, but instead go for a camp but cool monster movie poster. Gotta love them giant bug movies in the 50′s. With the cars I gave it a 70′s twist.
Fortunately the bands liked the concept too so I’ve started drawing right away. It takes quite some time to stage a scene like this, with busted buildings, and such. Of course I spent way too much time on details that won’t be seen on the final poster, but what the hell. I painted it in black and white and colored it digitally. I know it’s unorthodox, but I like the flexibility. It’s a lot easier to change colors around afterwards when that’s all done digitally.

Here’s what it looks like in this stage.

Abomination Tourposter

I’m working on a couple of posters and album covers at the moment. One of them stands out for me personally. The Abomination 2011 eurotour poster. Ever since I heard the debut album in 1989 I’ve loved Paul’s music.  In 1992 My band did a couple of gigs supporting Paul’s other band Master and the year after I had the honor of playing guitar in Master myself. I’ve been friends with Paul ever since.  I’ve also done a few pieces of design and artwork for Master and Solutions (Another one of Paul’s projects) but I’ve never had the opportunity to do artwork for my fave Speckmann band Abomination, because of the simple fact that the band was disbanded, and a couple of years ago Dean, the guitar player of the band tragically died of MS.

Years past and now, 22 years after the debut album, the band is resurrected with session musicians to enable todays audiences to hear the great Abomination music live once again. Needless to say I’m thrilled to do this tourposter.

There’s still some work to be done but I thought it might be fun to show the work in progress. Here’s the base poster in the latest version. This isn’t a definitive verion but it gives a pretty good idea where it’s headed.
